Mercedes-AMG has officially unveiled the GT2 Edition W16, an ultra-exclusive, track-only machine that fuses GT racing engineering with Formula 1-inspired technology. Designed purely for the circuit, it represents the pinnacle of AMG’s performance craftsmanship.
Production is strictly limited to 30 units, each powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 producing up to 818 hp thanks to a Push2Pass system. The engine generates around 738 lb-ft of torque, while the lightweight construction ensures an exceptional power-to-weight ratio.
Aerodynamic efficiency takes center stage, featuring F1-derived technology such as active louvers, a DRS (drag reduction system), a massive rear wing, and enlarged diffusers—all developed through extensive track testing to maximize downforce and stability.
The exterior showcases a distinctive hand-painted finish, PETRONAS-green accents, and magnesium wheels that emphasize its racing pedigree.
Inside, the cabin is designed for pure performance: carbon-fiber panels dominate the interior, the steering wheel integrates controls for DRS and Push2Pass, and the car comes equipped with a roll cage and five-point harness. Each unit proudly carries a “1 of 30” badge, underscoring its rarity.
Mercedes-AMG plans to deliver the cars at a European racetrack in spring 2026, offering owners exclusive driving sessions and special access to the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula 1 Team.
Although the GT2 Edition W16 is not road-legal, its unveiling hints at the possibility of a future AMG model that could bring this extreme track performance to the streets—a road-focused variant that’s just as thrilling but slightly more accessible.
